Intro
Surrey County Council’s ambitious programme, “Libraries for Life”, aims to increase book issues and library use throughout the county.
Brief
We won a four-year contract to help implement libraries for life, Esher was one of the libraries to receive a makeover in 2008.
Solution
The overall design maximises the excising features of the building – the Glazed Roof Light and columns. The rich colour scheme chosen has an immediate impact and is implemented consistently across flooring, paint finishes, fabrics, shelving and signage – bringing a confident and coherent look to the whole.
Our retail experience has been used in feature display walls that showcase books and DVDs.
Outcome
Library Managers were particularly pleased with the thought that was put into the location and design of the self-issue units. The library aims for all books to be issued and returned independently by borrowers. Our team analysed the processes involved and designed and created purpose-built units.
