Environment

We have a commitment to maximise our use of resources and to minimise landfill, gas consumption and harmful emission production.

Detailed below is one example of how we put our commitment into practice and the investment made. The end result has been the creation of an environmentally and financially efficient factory.

On-Site Recycling of Waste to Produce Heat

The system

  • Investment of circa £250,000 in a system recycling all possible waste produced in the manufacturing process.
  • Custom-designed machinery enables Redlake to be self-sufficient - heating entire manufacturing site through the combustion of waste materials, resulting in negligible gas emissions and landfill requirements.

How it works

The fully integrated system functions by breaking down all waste products in bespoke machinery.

Step 1
Waste is segregated into separate non-combustible items, before entering a cyclone.
Step 2
Small wood chippings and dust are sucked from individual manufacturing machines via ducts, and a powerful extraction system, into the same cyclone.
Step 3
Heat generated by these machines is also extracted for recycling.
Step 4
Once in the cyclone, dust is separated from the heat through a centrifugal force.
Step 5
The recycled heat is pushed back into the factory to heat the entire site.
Step 6
Through an Augur arrangement the dust is fed into a boiler and subsequently, via a heat exchanger, converts into hot air, which in turn heats water.
Step 7
The hot water is then pumped throughout the site, heating the offices, the manufacturing sites and the paint plant, as well as supplying hot water taps.
